Every baby needs a bed to rest their little head, but finding the right one can seem impossible – especially with all the new rules and regulations for cribs out there. Certain cribs have been found to put little lives in danger, which is why it’s important to follow nationally-approved crib safety rules, stating that your crib’s slats and corner posts must not be more than 2 3/8 apart. All nuts and bolts must be firmly secured, and the crib must be free from harmful lead-based paint (found in older cribs).
Most importantly, you should NEVER buy a drop-side crib which has caused a high number of deaths worldwide. So, with all of this in mind, here are 5 of our favorite baby cribs which meet all of the above specs (without compromising style, quality, or durability!). The right crib for your baby depends on various factors, so check out the following and see which crib tickles your fancy.
No nursery is complete without a changing table, and let’s face it – you’ll be spending a huge chunk of your day here. Studies show that a newborn baby goes through around 6,000 diapers in his/her first two years on Earth, meaning you’ll want to choose a station that’s safe, convenient, and practical. You’ll want to find a changing table that’s stable, is spacious but not too big that you can’t move around, and has space for a soft changing pad.
You’ll also need to ask yourself various questions, depending on what matters to you – like does the changing table offer decent storage? Are there enough drawers for all the things your baby needs? Do you prefer shelving? How high do you want your change station to be in proportion to your height? We’ve compiled a list of our 5 favorite changing stations that are most popular with parents just like you, so have a browse and see what suits you and your family most.
This is arguably one of the most critical purchases you will make, and it can also be the hardest, seeing as there are so many safety factors to take into account. Hospitals and birthing centers won’t even let you leave without a car seat, making it crucial to get one in advance. Firstly, you’ll want to make sure your car is car-seat-friendly, and you’ll need to know whether you want to install one via belt or latch. If you go latch, make sure you know where these attachments are in your car.
It’s also always a good idea to invest in a car seat that your child can use for years to come, and focus on important features like a 5-point harness, side-impact protection, and an anti-rebound bar if possible. Here are our 5 favorite car seats for newborns.
As soon as your baby discovers that he/she can move around on their own, you will notice that your baby becomes fearless. They’ll literally walk or crawl anywhere they can get to, making it important to give them a safe, controlled space to play and nap in – like a baby play yard (playpen).
There are several things you’ll want to look for here, like whether or not the play yard can be easily packed up and taken on vacation, if it’s on wheels, how easy it is to clean, what its weight and age limits are, and most importantly, if it complies with new Federal safety standards.
You’ll want something that’s convenient to set-up and use, potentially with in-built light, sound, and motion features to keep baby entertained. The look of the play yard depends on personal preference, but here are 5 of our favorites!
Once your newest family member arrives, you’ll hardly be able to contain your excitement to show her/him off to the world. This means you’ll need to find the perfect stroller, which is tough when you don’t know what you’ll need or what you should be looking for. Allow us to make your life just a little easier! First of all, know your budget – most first-time parents are shocked when they learn the cost of new strollers. But for many families it is one of the most-used items they will purchase, so buying the right one for your lifestyle is essential. Plus, there are many options and it is not necessary to spend a small fortune!
Keep your family size and lifestyle in mind, and what you’ll need from a stroller. Do you need something “all-purpose,” or more basic for walks and shopping trips? The most important thing is that your stroller accommodates newborns, is made from washable fabric, and features a sun canopy, adjustable hand-bar, and a basket. Check out our 5 favorite strollers below that meet the above specs and more.

The right diaper bag for you depends on your lifestyle. Do you plan on traveling around a lot with your baby, or will you make more local trips to the grocery store? Regardless, we’re sure you want something that offers convenience in packing, storage, and item removal. You’ll want to look for a diaper bag with long adjustable straps and extra pockets that make it easy to find what you need, when you need it.
The best diaper bags also come with removable changing pads, and are available in a range of colors depending on your taste. Also, make sure to look for a bag that can stand up on its own, making it easier to manage. Here are our 5 favorite diaper bags.
When it comes to baby bedding, think basic. Less is more in a crib, and you might want to leave those fancy sheets, blankets, pillows, comforters, stuffed animals, and crib bumpers on the store shelves. All that matters is keeping your baby safe and warm, regulating their body temperature to make sure they don’t get too hot or too cold.
A simple cotton or wool fitted sheet (non-dyed, and breathable) is usually enough, and keeping your baby cozy in a footed sleeper will do the trick. Make sure you pick a mattress that’s firm and doesn’t sag. Babies prefer harder surfaces that support their little bodies. Also, waterproof covers are a must – but mattresses with ventilation holes are not. These can be impossible to clean, so try to avoid them if you can.
We hope this helped! Check back soon as we will be keeping this list updated with the latest products in each category.
